Italia Conti Stage School Tributes

I have worked for Italia Conti on and off for many years. It is wonderful to read that people have not forgotten Lena. She was a young girl of 13 when she came to us and contrary to bad press did not have an eating problem then, although she hated German food.(pickled fish etc.) When she was at school she was very quiet a great kid who just loved to play with the schools pet dog 'Oscar' a little yorkie. He could be nasty like yorkies can be at times but he loved Lena. She would tickle him and sing little songs to him. She used to take him for short walks around the block. When I left to spend some time with my family in Canada in 1979 she signed her album and gave it to me as a present. I saw her for the last time at a private function in the late 80's she was so painfully thin but said she was on the mend. It is very very sad. Lena was a popular pupil at school who really did come 'alive on stage'. The youngest performer ever to headline at the Pallidium (at the time). I saw that show and she was quite 'the professional'. A unique voice from a little sparrow. She is remembered with great affection. The album has been framed and has been given to the school as part of its 'Centenary Celebrations' in 2011.
Lena will not be forgotten and her talent will be celebrated. That is a promise.
