My Tribute to Lena Zavaroni

When I came out of hospital after a four-year stay. I was left alone in my bedroom with my television, & record player.

My lonely world was about to change when I turned on the television to watch Opportunity Knocks. I could not believe my ears or eyes when I saw the lovely talented little Lena belt out  “Ma He’s Making Eye’s At Me” I was totally glued to the TV from one week to the next waiting for her again and again. I just could not get enough of this girl.

She soon was to change my life; I say this because through Lena I found myself. I had No idea at that time that I was able to sing. I was so taken by her that I bought all her records and found myself mimicking her as much as I could. To me she was the best thing that had happened to me in a very long time, she gave me the will to live, the will to entertain myself,  and most of all I found I was able to forget my own troubles, as I felt Lena was now although I had not yet met her, my best friend.

My dream was to come true about one year later and on the 26^th march 1975 I did meet her. Wow she just blew me away with such sweet and gentle accent, so quiet and unaffected by the stardom, she was just a timid child in her dressing room, I was so shocked because on stage she was the most powerful yet tiny little girl with an big and amazing  voice.

I followed Lena every step of the way through out her career, and occasionally we would write to each other. I remember her writing to me on one occasion telling me she was in America mixing with Frank Sinatra. I was just In Orr of her I so badly wanted to be her, to sing and get on the stage and do what she was doing. I later did go on to sing, and I thank the beautiful Lena for almost being there by my side and giving me the strength and courage to live my dream, the one I didn’t even know I had before I found her.

Lena will always go on to live deep within my heart; her voice made me cry, made me laugh, but above all it made me love her for being her.

Although she is No longer with us her memory will continue through this web site and through her records which thanks to modern technology we can still listen to, as I no longer have a record player, so being able to listen and watch her through the internet is such a blessing. I love you Lena and you will always be my little angel. XX love Kim
