Paul Tomkinson - Sonnet for Lena

After Paul left  Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet, The Lena Zavaroni Show on TV was his first job.  He has done a few more TV shows, West End shows, films, commercials and radio.  He won The Vivian Ellis Prize with his first musical called BOORSKALE.  Another musical (MOTLEY DRIFTWOOD) has also been produced.  As too, has TRICYCLE a play.  He's just finished writing his third musical and it is called KATIE'S CHRISTMAS QUEST.  The following is a sonnet that Paul very kindly written for me to go on here, I am so grateful for the tributes, as they are obviously written from the heart.

An Acrostic Sonnet for Lena Zavaroni

By Paul Tomkinson

M  emories are given for a reason

S  ome to make us smile … some to make us frown

L  ike the thought of a rose not in season

E  v’ry slice of toast … landing upside-down

N  ew  bicycles given by Santa Claus

A  maggot in a bite of luscious fruit

Z  abaglione and then petit fours

A  thump in the eye from a bullish brute

V  arying degrees of nice and not nice

A  re rememberances? we can’t censor

R  ipples of laughter … then tears in a trice

O  ne way to stop them? … no … not even MENSA!

N ever forget Lena’s smile … how it shone

I  gnore your frown … if you can … now she’s gone.

God Bless You Lena

Love Paul x
